Sleep Apnea May Be Linked to Diabetes

A U.S. study of 279 adults with type 2 diabetes found that 36% of them also had obstructed sleep apnea. Men were twice as likely to have it as women. And it was more common among men over age 62.

Dr. Daniel Einhorn at The Whittier Institute for Diabetes who led the study says, "Given that treatment of obstructive sleep apnea has the potential to both decrease blood pressure and improve glycemic control, individuals with type 2 diabetes should be regularly screened for the presence of sleep apnea."
